Perforated MDF Specifications
Perforated MDF has holes machined to a specified pattern for decorative or acoustic-panel substrates. Define hole size, spacing, borders, finish and the complete installation around the selected MDF core.
ThicknessInput MDF: 2–35 mm. The perforated panel thickness and machining feasibility are confirmed for the actual hole geometry, remaining webs and support.
SizeInput-board formats: 1220 × 2440 mm; 2100 × 2800 mm; 1830 × 3660 mm; 1830 × 2440 mm; 2440 × 3660 mm; 1830 × 4200 mm. Finished panel dimensions, borders and joints follow the agreed drawing.
DensityThe selected input-board density follows the MDF type, thickness, machining result and intended component; it is recorded in the order specification.
GlueThe bonding system follows the selected MDF core and decorative construction. Any backing or facing adhesive is specified for the agreed assembly.
Formaldehyde gradeAgree the input-board emission class, test method and destination documents for the selected MDF construction.
SurfaceRaw or an agreed decorative MDF face, with visible-face direction, hole-interior condition, reverse construction and edge preparation recorded in the quote.
Hole pattern and applicationHole diameter or shape, pitch, pattern origin, solid borders and fixing zones follow the drawing. Open area uses a stated reference area. Acoustic performance is established for the complete tested assembly.

State the open-area basis
Record whether open area is calculated over the perforated zone or full panel. Hole layout, solid borders and the chosen area determine the percentage.
Assess the whole acoustic system
Absorption depends on the perforated panel, backing, absorber, cavity and mounting. Use a test for that assembly; hole percentage alone does not establish a rating.

Your Perforated MDF questions, answered.
Can you make a custom hole pattern?
Yes. Send hole diameters or opening outlines, centre-to-centre pitch, pattern origin, panel dimensions, borders and quantities. We review the selected MDF, tool access, remaining material and supplied finish before confirming the pattern and tolerances.
How is acoustic performance confirmed?
Use the test report for the complete assembly: face panel, hole pattern, backing, absorber, cavity and mounting. ISO 354 is a reverberation-room sound-absorption measurement method. Share the required method and result with the assembly details so the supplied panels match the construction being assessed.
How do I specify the open-area percentage?
Divide the total clear area of the openings by the stated reference area, then multiply by 100. State whether the reference is the whole panel, including borders, or only the patterned field. Record the hole dimensions, count and basis with the drawing. The acoustic result is assessed for the complete assembly.
Can the panel be painted, veneered or melamine faced?
We review raw, painted or decorative-faced constructions around your selected board and process. Agree the visible face, pattern or grain direction, hole interiors and edges on a representative finished sample. The intended clear openings are checked after finishing.
Can I specify a fire-performance requirement?
State the required classification, method, installation and finished construction. The MDF core, perforation, face, backing and mounting are reviewed against the applicable product and assembly documents. The quotation confirms the selected supply and available documentation.
What is the difference between perforated, grooved and slotted MDF?
Choose perforated MDF for repeated through-openings. Grooved MDF follows a routed surface profile; slotted MDF may serve display fittings or another drawing-defined slot arrangement. Select the geometry and product around the decorative, acoustic or fixture function of your complete component.
How are hole and panel tolerances agreed?
Mark the hole diameter or opening dimensions, centre positions, pitch, borders and finished panel size from stated datums. We agree machining tolerances and inspection methods for those features separately from the selected input board's thickness specification.
How do I request a sample?
Send the panel or pattern drawing, input MDF and finish, the details you want to check and your delivery address. Samples are free, the buyer pays courier cost and that cost can be credited against a formal order. We confirm the custom sample preparation, dispatch and estimated transit time.
