Raw MDF, also called plain or unfinished MDF, is a factory-sanded wood fibreboard for painting, veneering, lamination and machining.

Select thickness for your component
Use the specification table above for the thickness and density ranges. Thin sheets suit supported backs and liners; thicker boards provide more material for shelves, fronts and routed profiles. Choose the grade with the component span, hardware, machining depth and finish.

Calculate sheet weight and order volume
Volume in m³ = length × width × thickness, with dimensions in metres. Estimated board weight = volume × density in kg/m³. Packing is additional.

Plan your cutting layout
The drawing below fits four 600 × 1200 mm parts into a 1220 × 2440 mm sheet, allowing 3 mm cutting kerf and a 5 mm edge reserve. At 18 mm thickness, finished-part volume totals 0.05184 m³; the full sheet is 0.0535824 m³.
For your quotation, we confirm whether the material charge uses finished-part volume or input sheets, plus the cutting, machining and packing required. Actual sheet dimensions and part tolerances determine the production layout. Send part IDs, quantities and any grain direction with your cut list. Can raw MDF be painted, veneered or laminated?
Yes. Prepare the factory-sanded faces and seal cut or routed edges for your chosen coating or adhesive. A sample lets you test the complete finishing process before ordering.
Which density applies to 12 mm and 18 mm Raw MDF?
Both fall within the 680–750 kg/m³ range. Specify the nominal density for your order alongside thickness, machining and intended finish. Density alone does not determine the suitability of a finished component.
How much does a 1220 × 2440 × 18 mm MDF sheet weigh?
At a calculation density of 700 kg/m³, the estimated weight is 37.5 kg. Across the listed 680–750 kg/m³ range it is about 36.4–40.2 kg, before packing. Use the weight calculator with your chosen board density.
Can you supply routed cabinet doors or cut-to-size parts?
Yes. Send front and section drawings, part quantities, groove depth and hardware positions. We confirm the material remaining after machining, supplied surface and finished-part tolerances with your quotation.
How are full sheets and machined components priced?
Full sheets are quoted with their nominal dimensions, sheet count and volume in m³. Component quotations state whether the material charge uses finished-part volume or input sheets, plus the agreed machining, finish and packing.
Can I get a Raw MDF sample?
Yes. Product samples are free; you pay the courier cost, which can be credited against a formal order. Send the thickness, intended finish and delivery address so we can confirm availability and dispatch timing.
Can standard Raw MDF be used in humid interiors?
Standard Raw MDF is intended for dry interior use. For humid rooms, discuss a moisture-resistant grade and the protection needed at faces, edges and joints. The full component and its exposure determine the material choice.
What documents can I request for my order?
The report on this page covers the identified 12 mm MDF. For your selected grade and thickness, request the board specification and emissions information for the destination and required test standard. Third-party inspection can be arranged before shipment.
