Moisture Resistant MDF, also called MR MDF, green MDF or green core MDF, is intended for protected humid interiors. Select the board using its moisture-performance data and the finished component design.

Choose the board for the room and the component
Make the board choice part of your furniture design. A painted vanity front, a kitchen cabinet side and a supported shelf can share the same room while facing different humidity, cleaning and water-contact conditions. Describe where each part sits and how it is finished, then we can connect the MR board, machining and protection to that component.
Our moisture resistant MDF is intended for protected humid interiors. Elevated room humidity is different from standing water, a plumbing leak or continuous direct wetting. For furniture in a humid room, choose the MR grade and a complete protective finish. For shower-zone contact, immersion or repeated direct water contact, select a material and assembly designed for that exposure. The MDF water-exposure guide explains these different purchasing needs.

Select 18 mm MR MDF with the finished part in mind
18 mm moisture resistant MDF can be discussed for cabinet fronts, sides and supported furniture components. Choose it with the span, frame, fittings, routed depth and finish. A thickness choice gives your drawing a starting dimension; the finished component still needs its own support and hardware details.
The published 12–18 mm density band for our MR MDF is 680–750 kg/m³. Record the nominal density of the quoted board with its grade and 18 mm thickness. Density helps calculate weight and plan handling; the moisture-performance report describes a separate property. A higher density alone establishes an incomplete comparison of moisture resistance.
Our MDF range is 2–35 mm, with six listed full-sheet formats. We confirm each thickness/format combination and order quantity in the quotation, or work from your cut list. The nominal ±0.1 mm tolerance applies to board thickness, with the measuring method agreed. Finished component dimensions, holes and profiles follow the drawing's separately agreed tolerances. For decorative faces, add the complete finished-panel thickness and reverse construction.
For a kitchen cabinet, send the front or side drawing, hinge or connector layout, finish and any sink or appliance interface. For bathroom furniture, add the vanity location, plumbing openings, lower-edge clearance and cleaning routine. A sample machined and finished in the way your workshop uses gives you a useful reference for assembly and repeat orders.
Request moisture data for the actual grade and thickness
Ask for the MR board identity, nominal thickness, product data revision and relevant test report. Record the method and edition, specimen condition, exposure, reported result and agreed acceptance requirement together. The sample ID or product range in the document connects the data to the board in your quote.
European Panel Federation's property guide distinguishes thickness swelling under EN 317 from cyclic-moisture testing under EN 321. These tests address different conditions. A swelling result after a named immersion period and a result following cyclic treatment need their respective methods and conditions to be compared usefully.

Thickness swelling is expressed as a percentage change from the initial thickness under the stated test. Board moisture content expresses water within the board; it is a different measurement. An E0, E0.5 or E1 designation concerns the specified emission requirement. Keep these items in separate rows of the order specification.
A small immersion test characterizes board response under its method; the furniture design also needs the intended service conditions and finished-component details. Include your acceptance requirement and destination with the document request. We confirm which current documents cover the proposed MR grade and thickness before the order is agreed.
Carry protection through faces, cut edges and openings
A finished face is one part of the protection plan. Machining creates new cut edges, routed surfaces and openings. Bring those details into the drawing, with the sealing, coating or edging to be completed by our factory, your workshop or the installer. Agree a compatible finishing system and follow its preparation and curing instructions.

Keep the finishing responsibility with every supplied condition. An unfinished MR board, a machined part and a fully finished furniture component reach different stages of preparation. Cutting or drilling after delivery can expose additional material; include its final protection in the workshop or installation plan.
Use the sample and documents together
Green MDF board is a familiar buying name for moisture-resistant MDF. Green colouring helps identify the board during handling; the MR formulation provides its moisture performance. Ask for the green-core or natural-colour option you need, and try a sample with your intended machining and finish. Compare green MDF and red MDF when choosing between moisture and fire requirements.
Use a representative part to try the tooling, edge preparation, coating and hardware. Keep the drawing revision, finish system, sample and agreed inspection points with the order. This helps your team repeat the same component preparation when the next boards arrive. MR MDF also benefits from dry handling. Keep boards supported flat in a covered, reasonably dry storage area, protected during transport and conditioned for the workshop before machining. Bring a complete MR MDF request to our factory
Send the room and component, thickness, dimensions, quantities, finish and destination. Add the moisture test and acceptance requirement, product documents, hardware or part drawings, and which edges and openings need preparation before delivery. We can quote boards for your production or prepared components with the supplied condition clearly stated.
Our published MR MDF price range is US$190–300 per m³. The formal quote sets out the actual grade, dimensions, quantity, price and currency, processing, packing, FOB Qingdao or FOB Lianyungang, lead time, T/T or L/C conditions and validity. Normal production lead time is 3–10 days after the specification and commercial terms are confirmed; the schedule for further processing is included in the quote.

How should I specify 18 mm moisture resistant MDF?
State the MR grade, 18 mm nominal thickness, sheet or part dimensions, nominal density, finish, support and hardware drawing. The published 12–18 mm MR density band is 680–750 kg/m³. Request moisture-performance data covering the proposed grade and thickness, then agree machining, edge protection and the finished-component tolerances in your quote.
What is green MDF or green core MDF?
Green MDF and green core MDF are common names for moisture-resistant MDF used in kitchens, bathroom furniture and humid-interior joinery. Green colouring helps identify the board; its resin formulation provides the moisture resistance. Specify the MR grade, thickness and preferred core colour when ordering.
Is thickness swelling the same as moisture content?
Thickness swelling is the percentage change in thickness under a named test and exposure. Moisture content is the amount of water within the board under its measurement method. Keep both with their conditions when requested, and record the emission classification separately.
Is moisture resistant MDF waterproof?
MR MDF is designed for humid indoor use with suitable surface and edge protection. It remains a wood-based panel that can absorb water and swell during prolonged wetting. For standing water, immersion, repeated direct water contact or exterior exposure, choose a material specifically designed for those conditions.
Can MR MDF be used for kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities?
It can be selected for protected cabinet doors, fronts, panels and storage components when the MR grade, finish and exposure suit the design. Pay particular attention to sink openings, plumbing cut-outs, joints and lower edges. Use a compatible protective finish, suitable ventilation and detailing that keeps standing water and leaks away from the furniture.
How do I compare MR MDF with HMR MDF?
Compare the actual boards, thicknesses, moisture test method and reported results. HMR MDF is offered for a higher specified moisture-performance requirement, with its own construction and technical information. Choose the product whose documented performance and finished-component design suit your room and exposure.
What moisture-performance and emission documents can I request?
Tell us the destination, intended use and required standard or method. We confirm the available technical data for the proposed board, including product identity, thickness, construction, moisture test method and reported result. E0, E0.5 or E1 requirements are recorded with their own emission standard and test method; we confirm the corresponding documents for your order.
Can I request a free MR MDF sample?
Yes. All product samples can be requested free of charge and are generally in stock. You pay the courier cost, which can be credited against a formal order.
