Technical specification
Black MDF Specifications
Black MDF is coloured through its wood-fibre core, so cut and routed areas show black material as well as the faces. It differs from a black decorative facing applied to a natural-colour MDF core.
ThicknessSpecify the required Black MDF thickness. Available thicknesses and the selected board are confirmed in the quotation for your component and quantity.
SizeSheet formats and cut-to-size dimensions are confirmed for the selected Black MDF thickness and order. Finished-part sizes, machining datums and tolerances follow the agreed drawing.
DensityThe Black MDF density is specified for the selected thickness and component, with product-specific properties recorded for the order.
GlueThe resin system follows the selected through-coloured MDF product. Coating or facing systems, when included, are specified for the agreed finished component.
Formaldehyde gradeState the required emission class, test method and destination. The quotation identifies the selected Black MDF product and the available emission and shipment documents.
SurfaceSanded, through-coloured black MDF. Supplied face and reverse condition, edge preparation, machining and any surface treatment are recorded with the physical sample reference.

How does through-coloured Black MDF differ from black melamine MDF?
Through-coloured Black MDF exposes black fibreboard when cut or routed. Black melamine MDF has a resin-impregnated black decorative face pressed onto a selected MDF core; the cut edge shows that core. Choose the through-coloured board for visible black material details, or a black faced construction for the required decorative surface.
Can you cut, drill or CNC-route Black MDF?
Yes. Share the part drawing with cut sizes, holes, recesses, chamfers or profiles. We review the selected board, tool access, remaining material and required finish, then include the machining and sample details in your quote.
Do exposed edges need finishing?
Through-colouring keeps black in the exposed material. Sanding and an appropriate surface treatment give edges the desired feel and protection. Include cut edges and routed recesses in the finish trial, and specify preparation and coating around the component's handling and use.
Can I use an oil, wax or clear coating?
Check the selected Black MDF with the finishing product and application sequence you plan to use. Oils, waxes and clear coatings can alter colour depth, sheen and feel. Review adhesion, appearance and protection on a representative face, edge and machined detail before production.
How do I match colour across adjoining panels or repeat orders?
Keep a physical board and finish sample with the order reference. Compare panels under the same lighting and surface condition, and specify acceptable variation for adjoining parts. Share the earlier specification and sample reference when planning a repeat order.
How do I specify moisture or fire performance?
State the service conditions, required grade or classification, test method and finished construction. We review the actual Black MDF product and applicable reports for your requirement. The colour specification describes appearance; the product documents describe the selected performance.
Which documents should I request for an export order?
Share the destination and required documents, including the product specification, emission method and report, and any project-specific moisture or fire information. We confirm the documents available for the selected board and shipment before the order is finalized.
