How the calculation works
A simple calculation, with units that stay clear.
Convert each dimension from millimetres to metres to calculate sheet volume. Multiply that volume by density in kg/m³ for sheet weight, then by the number of sheets for order volume and net board weight. CBM means cubic metres: the calculator shows the volume of the boards themselves.
A worked 18 mm example
18 × 1220 × 2440 mm MDF at 680 kg/m³.
One sheet has a nominal volume of 0.0535824 m³ and an estimated weight of 36.436 kg. For 768 sheets, the calculated board volume is 41.151 m³ and theoretical net board weight is 27,983 kg. This worked example uses the specification in our recorded loading case; we calculate your loading quantity from your own product, density and packing arrangement.

A useful loading plan brings together the boards, their packaging and the container. We confirm bundle dimensions and gross cargo weight for your specification, then check the loading arrangement against container payload and the handling and delivery requirements for your destination.
Prepare the shipment details
- Identify the product, thickness, sheet sizes, nominal density and quantity. For mixed orders, calculate each specification separately and add the totals.
- Include decorative faces and the confirmed weight of covers, wrapping, straps, bearers or pallets.
- Check packed bundle dimensions and their arrangement inside the selected container.
- Check the container CSC plate, tare, payload and maximum gross weight together with road, port and destination limits.
- Confirm forklift and unloading arrangements, then use the final packing and weighing records for dispatch.

How closely does calculated weight match the actual sheet?
Calculated weight is a theoretical estimate from nominal dimensions and density. Actual sheet weight reflects its measured dimensions, density, moisture and any decorative facing. For shipment and handling, use the measured weight of the supplied product; the estimate is useful for comparing options and starting your order plan.
What does order CBM tell me about container space?
Board CBM tells you how much panel material you are ordering. The space occupied in a container comes from the outer bundle dimensions, supports, gaps and loading arrangement. Share your sheet sizes, quantity and packing requirements so we can confirm the packed dimensions for your order.
How many sheets can I load in a 40' HC?
Send the board sizes, thickness, quantity and destination for a loading plan. We calculate the packs and weight and check the container and delivery limits. The 768-sheet case shows one shipment to help you plan your own.
Which density should I enter for MDF or faced MDF?
Use the nominal density offered for the exact MDF core and thickness. If you are choosing a grade, send your application and we will help identify a suitable product and density. For faced MDF, enter the MDF core thickness and density, then add the weight of the decorative layers for shipment planning. Confirm the finished panel weight for your order.
