Buyer tool · MDF order weight planning

Calculate MDF sheet weight, CBM and net order tonnage.

Enter thickness, width, length, nominal density and sheet quantity to estimate one-sheet weight, total board volume and theoretical net board weight before an RFQ or loading review.

Calculation inputs

Enter the board specification.

Estimated results

38.579 kg per sheet

Planning estimate based on nominal dimensions and density. Packaging, pallets, moisture variation, overlays and production tolerances are not included.

Calculation method

Dimensions first, then density.

The calculator converts millimetres to metres, calculates the volume of one sheet, and multiplies that volume by nominal density and sheet quantity.

How to use density in a buyer specification
Sheet volumeThickness × width × lengthUse metres to obtain m³.
Sheet weightSheet volume × nominal densityUse kg/m³ to obtain kilograms.

Worked 18mm example

18 × 1220 × 2440 mm MDF at 680 kg/m³.

One sheet has a nominal volume of 0.0535824 m³ and an estimated weight of 36.436 kg. For 768 sheets, the calculated board volume is 41.151 m³ and theoretical net board weight is 27,983 kg.

Container loading check

Calculated net weight is only the first loading check.

Add confirmed packaging weight to the board estimate, then compare the resulting gross cargo weight with the selected container, route, port and destination limits. Sheet quantity must be reviewed again when thickness, dimensions, density, product mix or bundle construction changes.

  • Confirm actual product and nominal density for the ordered thickness.
  • Add bundle covers, wrapping, straps, bearers or pallets.
  • Verify the container CSC plate, tare, payload and maximum gross weight.
  • Confirm road, port, destination, forklift and unloading restrictions.
  • Use final packing and weighing records for shipment release.

Calculator questions

How to use the calculated results.

Is calculated sheet weight the actual scale weight?

No. It is a theoretical result from nominal dimensions and density. Moisture variation, production tolerance, overlays and actual measurement can change the recorded weight.

Is CBM the same as container space used?

No. Board CBM measures panel volume. Packed dimensions, bearers, gaps, mixed products and the loading arrangement determine the space actually occupied.

Can the calculator confirm how many sheets fit in a 40' HC?

No. It supplies weight and volume inputs. The final quantity also depends on bundle design, internal container dimensions, payload, route restrictions and safe handling.

Which density should be entered?

Use the nominal density proposed for the exact MDF product and thickness. If it is unknown, send the application and component requirements for product review before relying on a number.

Need MDF with this specification?

Turn the estimate into a sourcing discussion.

Send the MDF type, thickness, dimensions, density, quantity, surface requirement, packaging and destination. CUZI MDF will review availability and order-specific details.
